Eugrid Secure Client utilizes standard PC functions for processing information but not for storing data. All information generated or processed with the PC is saved to a central file server on the network. The function of "processing data" and "storing data" are thus separated, solving many of the current problems besetting the use of PCs

To the end user there is no discernable difference in the use of the PC, it is exactly the same as normal. All data stored by the user on the desktop or in My Documents seems to the user to be stored on the PC but it is in fact stored securely on a file server located in the Data Centre. In other words, although it looks exactly like any other PC, it always retains a "clean" environment where data is never stored on the PC (terminal), which in this respect is similar to the Thin Client terminal.

As the PC contains no data, there will be no information or footprint of a user that can be lost even if the PC is stolen or lost while powered on, or even if it crashes without any warning.

Eugrid Secure Client provides another data storage area other than the central file server, however, there are no other data storage areas other than these two.

As mentioned before, the file server is the data storage area when the PC is connected to the LAN or WAN inside the office, however, when the PC is used offline, outside the office with the mobile option, a USB memory device serves as the other data storage area.

Data cannot be stored in any other place unless an authorization is given by the administrator. Therefore, the export of PC data is prohibited whether unintentional or intentional. What's more, this scheme requires no special hardware; standard PCs can therefore be redeployed. Convenient features of PCs can be used without any problems, such as connecting it to the scanner or printer as well as the use of IP phone and Web conference.
